"Computers are a recognised and important teaching aid for children in hospital, but they provide many other uses:

A nine-year-old girl was awaiting surgery. She hid under the covers crying with fear.Invited to use the computer (to help pass the time), she was soon sitting up, engrossed and hardly noticed the nurses preparing her for the operation. Another young patient, a Turkish girl with leukaemia who had missed her first year of school, has now started to grasp basic educational concepts by following a computer program. Her mother?s English has also improved. Our sickle cell sufferers receive great benefits from the computers because they miss a great deal of school."
